Sierra Chincua Monarch Butterfly Reserve

Thanks to Joe, Stan and Kent for inspiring this fantastic trip to the Monarch Butterfly Reserve, and all of you who joined us so this tour could include Dr. Pablo Jaramillo Lopez.  We were originally planning to visit the El Rosario reserve, as traditionally it boasts the largest colony of monarchs.  This year, it´s the Sierra Chincua reserve that attracted the largest colony of butterflies, so we changed our plans to head there instead.

Our groups left the cities of Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende and Patzcuaro on Feb 11, arriving in Tlalpujahua for the night.  We explored the church and markets, then enjoyed a fascinating and casual lecture by Dr. Jaramillo Lopez called Hope for the Monarchs.  After a frigid night, we departed Tlalpujahua for Sierra Chincua, and embarked on our journey to the monarch colony.

Thanks to all of our guests for making this tour happen, as a portion of your tour price is donated to monarch butterfly scientific research.
