WHY BOOK THIS TOUR WITH US?

If you love collecting or learning about textiles and culture, you will love this tour.  Unlike some of our tours that take us far from the beaten path to the bug-ridden jungles for archaeology or birding, this tour combines a bit of adventure with a structured itinerary that traverses popular tour destinations and two overnight experiences in towns that are well known to avid travellers in the Guatemala highlands.

The Adventure:  We will cross the land border between Guatemala and Chiapas, and will also visit the remote village of San Juan Cotzal (day trip) to meet some weavers.  If you opt for the trip to Copan, we will also cross the land border between Guatemala and Honduras.

The Structure:  We will stay in the cities & towns of Antigua, Quetzaltenango, Panajachel, Chichicastenango, Santa Maria Nebaj, Huehuetenango and San Cristóbal de las Casas. We will be in mid-range hotels that are clean and comfortable, and feature hot water and wifi (though both of these commodities can be in limited quantity sometimes).  We will have private transportation throughout the tour, but will need to walk across the land border between Guatemala and Mexico, which is about 3 blocks in total.  We will hire a mule to drive our luggage across the border, as this service is offered.   Please read the information carefully, and contact Jennifer directly with any questions you may have through email at coppermoontravels@protonmail.com

AIRPORTS
& OTHER INFO

We will be starting our tour from Antigua, Guatemala which means guests must fly into the Guatemala City Airport.  If you are nervous about landing in a foreign country, don't speak Spanish, etc, we can arrange to have a private driver pick you up with direct transport to Antigua.

Our. tour ends in
San Cristóbal de las Casas, and our driver will bring everyone to the Tuxtla Gutierrez Airport on our final day, so guests can depart from there.

If you would like to further explore Antigua and/or San Cristóbal de las Casas on your own, we highly recommend arriving early and departing later.  This gives you the opportunity to fully explore other aspects of these wonderful cities, including the outlying towns and nature experiences.

QUIRIGUA
& COPAN

If you love archaeology and want to make the very most of your time here, we are adding on an optional 3 night tour to visit the important sites of Quirigua in Guatemala and Copan in Honduras.  The cost is $24,000 MXN per person based on 8 guests.  If we have 12 guests, the price will come down to $16,000 MXN per person.

This price includes 3 nights hotels (double occupancy), private transportation with assistance through the land border, breakfasts, entrance fees to Quirigua and Copan and guided services for both sites.  We will spend the first night in Guatemala City and subsequent nights in Copan.  On the fourth night, we will be in Antigua with our group for Day 1 of our Woven Stories of the Maya tour.
